Two mods for Minecraft. One brings real amateur radio to the game: transceivers, antennas, coax, SWR and a simulated ionosphere. The other adds Fallout-style radiation zones, Geiger counters and hazmat suits.
HF, VHF and UHF transceivers, a handheld, a repeater, eleven antenna types, coax with frequency-dependent loss, SWR, an antenna tuner, linear amplifiers and a cross-needle meter. Signals travel through a simulated ionosphere that follows time of day, the solar cycle, geomagnetic storms and sporadic E, and VHF/UHF paths check the terrain for line of sight. Simulated DX stations call CQ when a band is open and answer if they can copy you.
HF all-band rig, VHF/UHF rig, HT-5 handheld and a repeater. Waterfall, S-meter and a band-scope.
Dipole, EFHW, verticals, ground planes, J-pole, collinear, discone, Yagis and a hex beam. Build them from blocks and masts.
Impedance-based SWR over lossy coax (RG-58, RG-213, LMR-400), an antenna tuner, linear amplifiers and a cross-needle power meter.
Simulated ionosphere: day/night, solar cycle, storms, sporadic E. Ground wave depends on frequency. VHF/UHF line of sight follows the terrain.
A vector network analyser (SWR, R/X, Smith chart), an antenna pattern analyser over real ground, and an antenna rotor.
Straight key or iambic paddles, an adaptive decoder with fading, and a CW robot to practise with.
LW, MW and SW AM broadcasting with a transmitter and mast radiator, plus 2200 m and 630 m. Ground, buried and elevated radials.
Hold V on a handheld or PTT in a radio screen. 8 kHz µ-law, carried through propagation and repeaters, with FM threshold and SSB noise at the receiver.
Run a WFM station (87.5–108 MHz) that plays MP3/WAV playlists with RDS-style titles. The WR-1 world receiver covers 100 kHz–500 MHz with SEEK and SCAN.
A permanent beacon with messages up to 250 characters and NCDXF-style power steps. Also new: a wall feedthrough block (N bulkhead).

Fallout-style radiation. Admins mark out irradiated zones and place radiation sources. Players who walk in get a red rad meter, hear a Geiger counter clicking, and go through stages of radiation sickness. At 1000 rads they die. Rads don't wear off on their own: you need RadAway, or you have to die.

“died of radiation poisoning”

Right-click for a detailed reading: ambient level, absorbed dose, protection and condition. Holding it shows the meter.

Removes 150 rads over 10 seconds. Glass bottle, dried kelp, glow berries and sugar.

Blocks 50% of incoming radiation for 4 minutes. Paper, amethyst shard, sugar and orange dye make 2.

Hood, suit, trousers and boots. Each piece blocks 22.5%, so the full set blocks 90%. Made from leather and yellow wool.

A glowing block that drips green particles and irradiates everything around it (6 rad/s, radius 6). Creative/admin only.

Each solid block between you and a point source absorbs 35%, so a thick wall helps. Zones are uniform and can't be shielded.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/rads | Any player: shows your own rads and condition |
/radiation zone add <name> <from> <to> <rads/s> [fade] | Box-shaped area with a uniform level, optionally ramping up from the edge |
/radiation source add <name> <pos> <rads/s> <radius> [falloff] [shielded] | Point source with linear, quadratic, inverse-square or constant falloff |
/radiation show [seconds] | Draws zones, sources and barrels with particles |
/radiation check [pos] | Radiation level at a position, broken down by zone and source |
/radiation set|add|clear <players> … | Change a player's rads |
/radiation list · reload | List everything; reload the config and the sources file |
Every value can be changed in config/radiation.json (gameplay) and config/radiation-client.json (HUD position, Geiger volume). Zones and sources are saved per world in radiation_sources.json.
Two worlds built around the Ham Radio mod, with club stations, antennas, and an hamradio_audio folder of 59 vintage swing and big-band recordings for the broadcast stations. On a server, set enable-command-block=true.

Create a new instance with Minecraft 26.3 and the Fabric loader (0.19.5 or newer).
Open Edit → Mods → Download mods, search for Fabric API and install it.
Click Add file and pick hamradio-1.4.0.jar and/or radiation-1.0.0.jar.
For a world: unzip it into the instance's saves folder (Edit → Minecraft folder) and start the game.
mods folder. Every player needs the mods installed as well.pipewire-alsa (Arch: sudo pacman -S pipewire-alsa), with PulseAudio pulseaudio-alsa. Without it the radio stays silent and the log shows Voice: no audio output.Checksums for every file: SHA256SUMS (check with sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS). Ham Radio bundles JLayer 1.0.1 (LGPL) for MP3 decoding.
